Along with the advent of knowledge economy era, training talents in universities has been regarded as the primary resources of countries to promote economic development and social progress. Whether the cultivation of university personnel can become the qualified builders and successors, focus on their ideological and political quality. The social system and social ideology are different between China and the United States, both colleges and universities attached seriously stress to the ideological and political education of the students. By adopting a series of methods and methods suitable for domestic educational practice to accomplish the goals and tasks of ideological and political education in Colleges and universities, to improve students’ ideological consciousness and political quality. There are differences in educational methods between the two countries, but there are some common characteristics. To make a comparative research on the methods of ideological and political education between Chinese and American universities, contribute to dialectically drawing on relevant experience in the practice of ideological and political education in American universities, consummate the methods of the ideological and political education in Chinese universities, and improve the whole ideological and political quality of the students.To compare and research the ideological and political education methods between Chinese and American universities, this paper applies the related principle and theory of ideological and political education. Firstly, this paper uses the definition of the concept, the basic characteristics and the main role three aspects to respective outline the ideological and political education methods between Chinese and American universities; secondly, this paper focuses on the main methods used in the ideological and political education for students in the universities of China and America, then compare and analyze the similarities and differences of the ideological and political education methods between Chinese and American universities; finally, attempts from the comparison results, with reference to draw lessons in the ideological and political education of the excellent experience of American universities, combining with the practice of universities in our country, proposes some countermeasures and suggestions to improve the Ideological and political education methods of China, to train more excellent talents for Socialism vital cause with Chinese characteristics.
