Objective To find the development rules of master's nursing program and provide a scientific evidence for establishing an effective training model and reasonable curriculum of master's nursing education in China.Method Investigation, literature comparing, statistic analysis were performed in the research to comparative the master's nursing of training aim, curriculum model, core curriculum, clinical practice, and curriculum examination between 27 nursing colleges in China(except Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macao) and 17 nursing colleges in America. According to the curriculum therapy, we design a questionnaire to evaluate the master's nursing curriculum of Chinese nursing schools, from curriculum design, training aim, content, teaching process, course examination, clinical practice and effects to students.Result There were many differences in master's nursing program in China and America, As to the ratio of core curriculum, it was 63% in China, while 50%,43%,22% in America of three specialties. The difference in credit ratio of core curriculum in the two areas was significant, P<0.01. In Clinical Practice aspect, the ratio of Credit and hours, it was 8%, 995.8 hours in China, while 32%,29%,619.3 hours, and 653.7 hours in America of two specialties. The difference was also significant, P<0.05. The investigation display, the score of curriculum design was 2.917±0.621, training aim was 2.697±0.685, course content was 2.982±0.552, teaching process was 2.752±0.474, course examination was 2.749±0.578, clinical practice was 2.915±0.637, effects to students was 2.445±0.697.The curriculum were good for training students to access information and carry out research, but more progress should be done in professional skills, humanities, administrative ability, and clinical guidance.Conclusion The curriculum of master's nursing program in China and America has their own features. There are many valuable aspects in American master's nursing program that we should learn from. We should design reasonable curriculum for master of nursing program as theoretic foundation and basic skill for all graduates, in order to satisfy the development of nursing science, the need of student and society.
