Fostering harmonious interpersonal relationships among college students is not only important for the development of healthy, stable universities, but also critical for the improvement of college students'moral quality and their career development in the future. A study of this topic will be valuable both in theory and in practice.This research was carried out through extensive review of literature and field study with a focus on the application of political science, management science theories to express the importance and urgency of harmonious interpersonal relations for college students. College students from six universities in Hunan Province participated in our questionnaire designed to reveal the current status of their interpersonal relationship and potential issues. The survey results indicate that college student are facing following challenges in their interpersonal relationship: incorrect interpersonal relationship built upon material rewards; tense relationship among college roommates; the alienation of faculty-student relationship due to the lack of genuine communication; challenge for students from low income family to develop healthy interpersonal relationship; abnormal relationship formed through internet; unstable relationship due to the lack of mutual trust.Finding effective ways to address these challenges will not only improve the mental and physical wellness of college students but also help the development of better higher education colloquium as well as more harmonious campuses and society. It is important both in theory and in practice. This study suggests that college students interact with each other with mutual respect, friendship, empathy, honesty in order to build a new 4-in-1 model of harmonious interpersonal relations. The four pillars of this new model are the KEY (focusing on self-improvement and self-education), CORE (promoting harmonious campus culture and interpersonal relationship education), FOUNDATION (fostering harmonious family environment and family education) and INSURANCE (building a harmonious society).
