The building of characteristics of a school has been generally focused on in both domestic and overseas'educational theory and teaching practice research. It has been long-pursued for every school to build their own characteristics step by step in the process of school management. The building of characteristics acts as a key factor in the promoting and realizing of quality education, it is also indispensable for the school's existing and self development. In this essay, the author is trying to make a pilot study on the building of the characteristics of a school.With the promotion of the quality education, competitions between school and school are more and more stiff, which make the valuation of the high quality educational resources much more important. The construction of the characteristics of school has been paid a close attention by education researchers and school sponsors. Many local governments have made the building of characteristic schools as a significant task for education's development, which is also important for the performance valuation for the school management.In the essay, the author defines the definition of school characteristic and curriculum system. By analyzing the domestic and overseas' researching achievement, the author concludes the significance of the construction of the characteristics of a school and sort out the channels of realizing it which can be summarized as four:distinguished ideas for managing school; characteristically management process; characteristic curriculum system; specialized teaching mode.Based on the theory of the construction of the characteristics of a school and years of experiences on educational management, the author analyzes both Beijing city and Shijingshan district's educational background objectively, on the same time, this analysis goes from the construction of students'curriculum system, thus to implement the construction of characteristics of a school.By using of case study method and setting Beijing Shijingshan Experimental Middle School as an example, the author combines the regional teaching practice with learning practice, then chooses students 'curriculum as a breaking-through point for the construction of the characteristics of a school, thereby, summarizes the core idea of students' curriculum of Beijing Shijingshan Experimental Middle School. Then put forward a practical research of the School for its foundation of three categories curriculum and development of five levels of curriculum system thereby form a multiple opened students'curriculum. The author also makes an intuitive and concrete analysis of the result by quoting the relative data of developmental evaluation seminar of Beijing Normal University from year2005to2011.Therefore the conclusion of this essay is that students'curriculum could not only reflect a school's characteristically value orientation but also the performance and distinguishing feature of the managing of a school.
