Vocabulary is the foundation of language and the basic material of language. It is hard to express ideaswithout vocabulary; people couldn't communicate effectively without enough words either. To a certainextent, the size of the vocabulary signifies the language level of a person. Listening, speaking, reading,writing are the basic language skills, and each of these skills are required to be supported by enoughvocabulary.English is a basic subject of the compulsory education in China. English vocabulary learning is alwaysthe focus and difficulty in junior high school teaching, junior high school students encountered a variety ofproblems in the process of learning English vocabulary. This study is designed to help them identify themain problems in English vocabulary learning, analysis the main reasons for these problems, proposesolutions to these problems, thereby helping students improve the efficiency in their English vocabularylearning.This study tries to answer two questions through research:(1) What are the main problems in thejunior high school English vocabulary learning?(2) What are the major causes leading to these problems?This study adopts questionnaires, classroom observation and interview methods, investigates andanalyzes "the main problems in English Vocabulary Learning" among120students in the High SchoolAffiliated to Henan Normal University, and found out that the major problems in English vocabularylearning are:(1)Their interests of learning English are not high;(2)The methods of English VocabularyLearning are impropriate;(3)The purpose and motives of learning English is merely for passing exams andpleasing parents. Through the analysis, the main reasons that cause these problems are:(1) The singleteaching style of the teachers, and there is no corresponding language environment; the pressures of studycaused the learning inertia of the students, and they did not realize the importance of learning English;(2)Teachers did not correctly guide the students to learn the methods of memorizing the words, and thestudents are lack of the spirit of overcoming the difficult courage and the persistence.(3)Teachers andparents did not correctly guide the students to learn, but just constantly demanding for high scores, thisleads the students to feel that only they got the high scores, they will be a good child and a good student.This article consists of five chapters: The first chapter is the research background, motivation and the overall structure of this paper. The second chapter reviews the research and development trends of EnglishVocabulary Learning in domestic and aboard. The third chapter is the study design, including researchquestions, research objective, and research methods and processes, and data collection. The fourth chapterpresents the findings and analysis, including the results of the questionnaires, interviews, classroomobservation and analysis. The final chapter is the conclusion to answer the research question, and shows thePedagogical Implications and recommendations.
