During the fast development of civil aviation, the pilot, being as the aircraft practical operator and flight safety chargeable person, has played the irreplaceable important role. Due to external environment change, workload and complication etc, it causes the working stress of pilot. If no relief in long term, it will gradually cause the fatigue mentally and physically, resulting overstrain and in the loss of work passion and more problem which will affect flight safety. Recently in civil aviation, there is few study on pilot job stress. The potential safety risk because of it has not drawn enough attention. So, how to manage and maneuver pilot job stress is an important subject which in very need of study. In such a background, this study will discuss pilot job stress related problems, to understand pilot job stresses and stressors, to discuss the variable difference between the job stressors and job stress on the demography statistics and civil aviation scenario, to provide the basis for relief measures of pilot job stress, to guide systemically and treat stress correctly and maneuver stress to assure flight safety via the three aspects of social and industrial environment, organization and the individual. This paper is concluded by research on real cases of Shandong Airlines (SDA) pilots and using the theoretical stress model, via reference to literatures and through questionnaire survey featured in civil aviation and making qualitative and quantitive analysis on the questionnaire survey. The research result showed that the general stress of Shandong Airlines pilot is in a higher level, in which the higher and the highest ones account for 78.6%. The job stress resources was categorized into work environment, social relationship, workload, work autonomy, training development and work support etc. among which the workload and training development related stress is the major stressor. Job stress has remarkable difference among the gender, ages, work ages, flight hours and marriage status. In the end, the strategy is brought out accordingly based on the research result. The new feature of this study is the combination of the latest Safety Management System (SMS) concept in current civil aviation field and work stress to discuss on the work stress management method, to work out the detailed measures including organization system design to average stress and pilot position flexibility to relive stress, for the purpose to ease work stress, designed to be instrumental for the maintenance and improvement of airlines safety management.
