Empirical Study On The Utilization Of Enterprise Patent Information

Patent information is a strategic resource in business management. Enterprises can enhance their competitiveness if they use patent information effectively. It is useful to master patent information for the innovative industries or enterprises. Because it can not only track the major trends in current technology, monitor the competitive situation of technology, but also can effectively avoid the patent infringement dispute, drive the imitators out, at the same time improve the efficiency of technology research & development and maintain their own competitive advantage in the technical field. With the further advance of globalization, domestic enterprises will be in a more intense competitive environment. It is not only the enterprises', but also our country's choice to implement the Intellectual Property Strategy, while the use of patent information throughout every link of the intellectual property strategy's formulation and implementation. It has great significance for promoting the innovation and development of China's enterprises to study the utilization of patent information in companies, which can master the situation of patent information utilization and its influencing factors, then propose countermeasures for the current limitations.Firstly, analyzed the difference between patent information and patent documents, as well as the five categories of patent information that the patent documents had conveyed: technical information, legal information, economic information, record information, strategic information; described the importance of the patent information from the business and socio-economic development; accounted the selected standard and the basic situation of the sample enterprises. This context mainly took the size and innovation capability of the enterprise as the standard to choose the sample companies, and analyze the sample enterprises from four aspects, that is, their city distribution, size distribution, the nature distribution and industry distribution and analyzed the patent ownership of the sample enterprises mainly from the patent application and authorization.Secondly, analyzed the situations of the patent information utilization in sample enterprises from three aspects: the capabilities to apply, the realm of applications, the way of utilization. In the ability of using patent information, it set a detailed analysis mainly from four aspects: the patent department, patent staff, patent funds input, and the patent management system; in the application areas, analyzed from research project, new product development, technology trade, infringement disputes, and the analyzed from the patent public search platform, business search platform, commission agency, and their own patent database.Finally, pointed the limitations of patent information utilization in sample enterprise based on the full analysis of research data. There are some limitations in sense, capacity, areas and the methods or tools. And proposed the corresponding countermeasures for limitations.
