The Application Research For BRT System In The Devepment Of Changzhou Transportation

The urbanization and industrialization play an important role in achievingmodernization in China, and drive population to gather in urban rapidly. Therefore,during the progress of fast urbanization and agglomerating industrialization, Chinesecities are faced with higher and higher pressure on traffic. The traffic congestionalmost becomes a persistent ailment of urban construction and management.To ease the public traffic pressure, much fund and wisdom are inputted in manycities. But it gets more and more difficult to run in city for normal bus transit with theaggravating contradiction between vehicles and roads. Increasing private cars andfalling trip rate of public vehicles add more pressure on limited road resources. Whilethe urban underground traffic is not feasible and normal bus transit is difficult to besustained, the bus rapid transit (BRT) system is regarded as a transitional product ofunderground traffic and a updating product of normal bus transit. It, to some extent,will solve the problem of normal bus's crowd and slowness, which will increase theattraction of urban public traffic and resident trip rate by bus. It has great practicalsignificance for a city's benign running and residential living improvement to easetraffic jam by means of increasing use ratio of urban road resources.This thesis introduces the concept and structure of BRT firstly, and then analysesadvantages and disadvantages along with application conditions, and lastly quotesadvanced experience of BRT development at home and abroad as a reference to ourpresent construction. Changzhou, with five million people, is an industrialized citywhich makes a remarkable achievement in economy. But, in past few years, it wasalso faced with a serious problem of traffic jam, which restricted economic furtherdevelopment and influenced improvement of the people's livelihood. In recent fiveyears, Changzhou carries out "Unimpeded Road Project" which stresses onintegrating urban road resources and building BRT system. Now it has traversed thefour corners of the city and has connected surrounding major cities. Thus, the residenttrip rate by bus has been increased several times over and the city management levelhas dominated national rankings. This article emphasizes analyzing the present publictransportation situation in Changzhou, and discussing the necessity&feasibility to develop BRT. It elaborates the application and achievement of BRT system in bothaspects of technology and service. Meanwhile, it offers a detailed proposal in BRTconstruction. Finally it comes to a conclusion that it will surely contribute to theimprovement of public traffic system in Changzhou to develop BRT. This thesis isexpected to be of reference in the further development of public transit in Changzhouand other large and medium-sized cities.
