Industrial land is an important part of urban land composition. It is an inevitable stage for most cities to boost economic growth and accelerate urbanization progress by developing manufacturing part of its industry accompanied by the great increase of the area of its industrial land. At the end of 20th century the transfer of manufacturing part of multinational corporations speed up the industrialization progress of China and other developing countries. As a result, the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta in China has turned out to be the'world factory'in succession, which lead to the spread of industrial land. However, the extensive industrial land use has not only threatened China's food security, but also impeded the sustainable development of cities themselves. Since 1990s, the central government of China has launched a series of land policies to control the spread of industrial land. The local government of the coastal cities has also attached more and more concerns on intensive industrial land use due to the land in their jurisdiction have nearly been used out.Changzhou is a typical industrial city in the southern part of Jiangsu province. The situation of industrial land use in Changzhou, which has a great similarity between urban and rural areas, is rather complicated through its long history of industrialization and its historical problem of jurisdiction separation. So the city government is quite in lack of a comprehensive understanding of its industrial land status at all times. This thesis is based on the integration and analysis of several investigation databases of Changzhou's industrial land. The main part of the thesis is about the spatial distribution characteristics of the industrial land use efficiency, which chiefly includes the decrease characteristics of the industrial land output per km2 from the urban centre to rural periphery, and the differentiation characteristics of the decrease rate of the economic, social and environmental land use efficiency for different industries. The thesis further explores the influential factors of certain characteristics, finally make some strategic suggestions for intensive land use in Changzhou according to the influential factors. For the reason of data limitation, some part of the core analysis uses certain mathematical method and cut down part of the study area, which will not seriously affect the final conclusion.
