The conflict between human beings and earth has been the main element thatrestricts the development of mountainous cities. Being influenced by complicatedgeography environments, the construction of a mountainous city has its own complexityand specialty. The occupation of land by public traffic and the unsystematic and high-strength development of urban have both laid an embargo on the development ofmountainous cities’ natural ecological and land resources. Traditional design strategies, which focus on shaping a building’s look, can not go on dealing with all kinds of urbanproblems in mountainous cities any more. Therefore, studying on the relationshipbetween architecture design and urban design, from the view of urban resourcesintegration and ecological environment preservation as well as following the rules ofthree-dimensional integration, functional complex and spatial density, can not onlyenlighten the design of architectural spaces, the mode of traffic organization and thecompound use of three-dimensional spaces, but also be responsible for the needs ofmountainous cities’ future development. This paper takes Chongqing’s main-city area as the study concern, concentratingon how the urban’s exterior environments, including urban’s forms and spatialsurroundings, socially cultural surroundings and citizens’ needs for public activities, affect the process of architectural design so as to solve the conflicts between urbanpopulation and earth as well as supplement more public spaces.
