With the development of the economy and the raise of level of education bycustomers, they not only require products have high quality, but also require productshave a new look and diversified function. Thus, the leader of market had been changedfrom the manufacturing enterprise to the buyer, and the production model of MassCustomization (MC) came into being. In a certain extent, the production model of MChelped manufacturing enterprises improve the ability of dealing with market, met thefast and diversified requirement of customers, but at the same time, due to the different,dynamic and complicated production process caused by its diversification,manufacturing enterprise is difficult to accurately judge the delivery time of products.The real reason for this problem is that the complex, redundant and low efficiency of thetraditional method to calculate working hours had couldn’t accurately reflect the realworking hours in the production modle of MC, and in turn caused the bad consequencethat the production plan couldn’t be executived on time, the production time couldn’t beinsured and the date of delivery was delayed. Then, if the MC enterprises want toquickly satisfy the need of customers in this market full of severe competition, theymust rethink the formulating method of working hours, so that it can meet the efficiencyand accuracy requirement, and improve the response capacity of manufacturing sysemto market.According to the characteristics of manufacturing system in the MC productionmode, based on the traditional method to calculate working hours, this paper tookproduct family parts as its research object, and put forward a new formulating workinghours method that it takes the manufacturing characteristics as the carrier of workinghours. This method follows these thoughts such as the part-whole and concrete-abstract,takes the manufacturing characteristics as the criterion and uses parts similarity and theneural network technique to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the formulatingwoking hours. Firstly, through the analysis of characteristics of manufacturing systemwithin MC environment, it put forward the concept of manufacturing characteristics ofparts, and took it as a new carrier of working hours; Secondly, in order to ensure theefficiency of the method, it built the manufacturing characteristic model of partsaccording to the theory of parts design and manufacture within the production mode ofMC, and reserched the similarity judgement of parts based on the manufacturing characteristics. This judgement focus on two kind of information hierarchy: the type andmaterial of parts, and the other is its model of manufacturing characteristics. Thirdly, itdefined the concept of virtual part and platform of working hours description, gived thebuilding rules of virtual part, and biult the platform of working hours description forevery virtual part using the technique of object characteristics table and described all theinfluence factors of working hours for every group of parts. Fourth, in order to ensurethe accuracy of the method, this paper designed the structure of working hours neuralnetwork, biult the model using the technique of neural network and reserched theprocess that calculating the working hours of parts using the MATLAB software. Finally,it illustrated the specific process.
