Since China joining WTO, there are overwhelming investment activities from worldleading automotive manufacturers coming to China. This trend has caused a great shock forChinese local automotive manufacturers’ dominant market position. To respond thischallenge, Chinese companies have developed their various strategies in order to maintaintheir market share. Chinese companies start learning advance vehicle assembly process,design methodology, and production management system from their overseas counterparts.The process has gradually improved the efficiency of management system and thecompetiveness of products at many enterprises. Among Chinese automotive manufacturers’all thrusts, improvement of the productivity has been attracting interrupted attention for theperiod. The article has illustrated JMC Transit’ assembly plant final shop as a study case, byusing real production data input from year2008, the article has thoroughly analysed the data,try to find out main concern related to productivity improvement, and search for the solution.In assembly plant, the cycle time reduction has been a main target of the productivityimprovement. After studying the operation of the standard plant transportation equipment,the article has provided a plan of synchronous movement for an asynchronous assemblyplant transport system and an assessment of the plan’s implementation. With respect toreduce time lost due to machine unscheduled stoppage of the assembly plant production line,the article has devised an input-output model which can be used for minimising the cost ofthe unscheduled stoppage. The model is established by a measurement of a single vehicleunscheduled machine stoppage cost, and by supporting of the assembly plant stoppage costdata in year2008. Importantly, the model has providing a useful tool for searching of arealistic solution. The article has showed how the model and its solution can work togetherto achieve a final result of a large percentage reduction on a single vehicle unscheduledmachine stoppage cost.The article has arrived at:1. Providing the plan and assessment mechanism of synchronous movement for an asynchronous assembly plant transport system; the mechanism would benefit a plantwith low production volume, asynchronous assembly transport system and partiallylift its operational potential.2. Establishing a working model and solution against the stoppage cost data ofproduction line; the mechanism can achieve large reduction on the unscheduledmachine stoppage cost for production line equipment. Generally the mechanism canbe applied to other similar case for the purpose of reducing unscheduled machinestoppage cost at their plant.
