With the development of economy, energy-shortage has become a serious globalproblem to our society. Many countries have taken measures to save energy, exploitnew type energy, and utilize renewable energy so as to implement the energysustainable development. Water resource, which is rich and widely distributed in ourcountry, is an important resource of renewable energy. In31Dec.2010, China StateCouncil’s report “Decision on Accelerating Reformation of Water ConservancyDevelopment” clearly pointed out that small hydropower stations should beconstructed to replace the fuel so as to protect ecological environment. China’s Smallhydropower stations, which stand-alone capability is below2000KW, is stillsemi-automated, their drawback in control technology results an inefficient utilizationof water energy. Therefore, to develop an integrated automation system suitable forsmall hydropower station has become the consensus of the industry and the keyproblem urgently to be resolved.This thesis targets at the problems of small hydropower station, such asfunctional technical indicators constraints, inconsistent and economic operation of thecommunication protocol, it researches and develops an intelligent control device,which integrates the control functions, such as generator and transformer protection,comprehensive measurement and control, excitation control, quasi-Synchronizationcontrol, PLC, remote communication, automatic generation Control (AGC), automaticvoltage control (AVC). Management functions of small hydropower stations areimplemented, such as Monitoring, measurement, fault diagnosis, control andprotection and information.With the detailed surveys and analysis on the characteristics and needs of smallhydropower stations, the functions of control system and the corresponding technicalindicators are configured with multi-function plug-ins, the structure of the functionconfiguration of the integration model is also proposed in this thesis. Based onMOTOROLA DSP56F807processor,the CPU board and functional plug-ins alongwith their interconnection have been designed, the working principle of the individualplug-ins and the whole system has been analyzed in detail. In this thesis a printedcircuit board is designed for a prototype development of integrated devices, and thecompilation and debugging of device control software are it is completed. Overall testhas been done on the device; the test results show that the device achieved theproposed functional and technical specifications.The integrated control device researched in this thesis is applied to smallhydropower stations, tests and practical applications shown that the device iscost-effective, simply engineering designed, installation and maintenance convenient,operation reliable and unattended. This device is suitable for small hydropower powerwhich stand-alone capability is below2000KW, particularly the rural smallhydropower stations.
