At present, most of the large vessels in the world use the way of hydraulic keyless connection to fix the location between the propeller shaft and the propeller hub. To form the interference fit within the elastic range of the material between the propeller shaft and the hub through the function of the high-pressure oil,which is the principle of the hydraulic keyless connection. Propeller and shaft linked together reliably via the huge friction force to achieve the function of transfering the torque which from the main engine. The way of hydraulic keyless connection not only has good assembly quality and reliability, but also easy to disassembly,which can provide a strong guarantee for the navigation performance of the vessel and the safety of the crews and the cargos on board.This paper discusses the principle of the hydraulic keyless connection and the installation technology. Introduced the different way of the parameter determination among the main ship’s inspection departments in the world, such as CCS、ABS、LR. Modeling the installation process by means of the network diagram tools,and finish the visual simulation software with the tools of C++and OSG. The main work of this paper includes:1) Described the working principle and advantages of keyless hydraulic connection technology; and the key technologies needed for the installation process.2) Introduced the methods of the determination for the key parameters of the installation process, for example, the magnitude of interference, the pull-up length,the axial oil pressure,in order to achieve good theoretical basis for the later simulation.3) Model building. Modelling the installation process with the network diagram tools.To show the hydraulic keyless connection installation process with chart in order to make the process looks stereoscopic impression and intuition.4) Visual simulation. To complete the parameters caculation and the visual simulation of the installation process with the simulation tool. And select the 53,800DWT bulk carrier as the prototype data to validate the simulation system.The research and development of the parameters calculation and visual simulation system for the hydraulic keyless propeller installation process,not only to ensure the accurate calculation of the relevant parameters,but also can improve the quality of assembly and the installation efficiency. At the same time, this system can be used as a training tool used by the trainees of the enterprises or the training institutions.
