With the development of railway transport, the instrument display with mixed mechanical and electrical structure of the traditional locomotive has become history. Now, DDU in domestic locomotive mostly has been using LCD which has good intuitive and recognition. But most electric locomotives are imported from abroad, and so are the DDUs.This makes us not only depend upon the overseas in technology, but also a large amount of fund flows into foreign. This hindered the development of our own railway transport industry. With the pace of domestic independent development propulsion in electric locomotive field, DDU also follows the step. This topic is proposed in the context that our school sign the contract "Design of Driver Display Unit for Locomotive Based on FIPnetwork" with CNR Dalian Locomotive Research Institute in order to do localization research on Driver Display Unit.Driver Display Unit belongs to embedded system. This subject shows the design and research of Driver Display Unit in two parts:hardware and software. Verify the feasibility through the actual design. PLUTO PLT-N270board and STACK104board are selected as DDU hardware platform. On the basis of analysing several embedded operating systems, embedded Linux operating system is constructed in memorizer CF card. Selected embedded Qt as GUI development tool, complete the communication between different complicated objects. Complete the transplantation of the application, including kernel tailoring, construction of file system and deployment of application program. At last, build the simulation test platform in the laboratory for on-line testing. The result shows that, the Driver Display Unit has friendly HMI. Data exchanges normally in each equipment. Also the system is concurrent, stable, and reliable. In the end of the paper, evaluating the Driver Display Units HMI after establishing comprehensive evaluation model based on grey theory. This subject has basically completed the localization design of DDU in heavy haul eletric locomotive. It provides a new technical idea for our next generation of DDU localization design.
