Numeral words are an important part of modern Chinese lexicology, also integral content of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. But according to current research situation, the research on modern numeral Chinese itself and numeral words teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language is very weak. This essay carries out related research on Chinese numeral words and numeral words teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, combining research on modern numeral Chinese itself and numeral words teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, tries to apply the research result of Chinese numeral words to numeral words teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.The research on modern numeral Chinese itself begins with the definition and name of numeral words, points out that numeral words are formed by numeral elements, mainly constituted by numeral morpheme with numeral morpheme and numeral morpheme with other morphologies, including numeral compounds, fixed numeral phrases, numeral idioms and abbreviation, and other special forms of Arabic numeral phrases and newly formed numerals. Detailed analysis and description are done to basic numeral words in modern Chinese such as one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten; the complexity of Chinese numeral words is also showed here and due attention or emphasis should be paid to it. Detailed study is carried out respectively on numeral words, numeral idioms and abbreviation, and other special forms of Arabic numeral phrases, newly formed numerals and popular numeral words used on the internet.There are many differences between Chinese and other languages. Research of the differences is helpful for effective Chinese teaching on non-native speakers. This essay contrasts the connotations, cultures between Chinese and English numeral words and phrases, and traces down the cause of cultural difference, that is, mythological worship, religious belief, traditional cultural value, thinking way difference, the difference of language and written words. The detailed translating way is also suggested here based on the differences between Chinese and English numeral words.When the research of numeral words is concerned, this essay, based on related statistics, the contents and difficult points of numeral words teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, does a concrete analysis on the situation of numeral words teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Detailed analysis is also done on the writing error, connotation error, grammar error and pragmatic error based on the investigation of answering sheets and media language materials. The cause of these errors mainly comes from negative transfer of mother tongue, negative transfer of knowledge of target language and teaching errors. Suggestions on how to teach numeral words is put forward according to the characteristics of Chinese numeral words and errors committed by overseas students.
