Chinese complement system is a greatly important and complex structural system, in whichdirectional complements have long been the focus in the modern study of Chinese grammar aswell as the hot research topic for many scholars. In other language grammars, there exist little"complement" elements. Directional complements, comprising the simple directionalcomplements and the compound directional complements characterizes by complex usage, structural variety, abstract meaning and features of directional complements own, all of theseresult in that students overuse directional complements mistakenly. For a long time, a great manyscholars pay attention to the compound directional complements, but know little about simpledirectional complements. From the point of view of Chinese teaching for foreigners, we neatenedthe teaching research achievements of simple directional complements and designed aquestionnaire based on comparative analysis, error analysis, inter-language theory andThree-plane theory. Analyzing the questionnaires from the overseas students of InternationalCollege of Shandong Normal University, who have different native language backgrounds, welearned about the students’situation of studying simple directional complements and searchedfor subjective and objective causes in view of using biases of simple directional complementsfound in questionnaires to provide a few practical suggestions for the simple directionalcomplements teaching of Chinese as a foreign language. The paper is divided into five chapters:The first chapter of introduction mainly recommended the reasons of selecting the topic, also presented the definition, scope and current research status of simple directionalcomplements and the review of such as the Chinese directional complements grammaticalmeaning, foothold and semantic point, the location relations between simple directionalcomplements and object. Beyond that, the final section described the research methods of thispaper. The second chapter introduces the theoretical basis of this paper: the contrast analysistheory, error analysis theory, inter-language theory and Three-plane theory. The third chapter describes the investigation of the simple directional complements, thedesign of the questionnaire, the students’ understandings of the simple orientation complements reflected by questionnaires and the analysis findings of the survey. The fourth chapter refers to the classification and analysis of brief biases of the overseasstudents in making use of simple directional complements, main several types of biases anddemonstrated profound theoretical analysis and thinking to learning of the simple directionalcomplements as well as the main subjective and objective causes of producing biases. The fifth chapter indicated simple directional complements teaching strategies in view ofreasons of causing biases from the perspective of teachers and students, also describedrecommendations put forward along with principles and specific methods to solve teachingproblem.
