With the development of globalization, interpreting has become an increasinglyimportant activity in the international arena. From the UN to the EU, frominternational trade to communications and exchanges, interpreting has become anindispensable part of these activities. However, the simultaneousness ofinterpretation has posed huge challenges on interpreters. At present, there have beena lot of works on these issues of interpreting, including various theories and models. The Interpretive Theory, proposed by Seleskovitch and Lederer is just one of them. The paper aims at offering a full and detailed introduction to the Interpretive Theoryto not only have a review of this theory but also offer strategies for improvinginterpreting quality in light of the Interpretive Theory with support of its coreconcepts. The paper, under the guidance of IT, has explored the IT paradigm proposed bythe Interpretive Theory, including understanding, deverbalization, reformulation andexpression. Then based on the studies, the paper has offered a few strategiestargeting the three procedures to improve interpreting quality. The paper consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, the paper reviewedinterpretive theories and models developed in different periods and their significance. In the second chapter, it introduced the basic concepts of the Interpretive Theory andits proposals, including the definition of translation layers, the triangular modelcomprising understanding, deverbalization, reformulation and expression as well asmemory and cognitive process in interpreting. The Third Chapter has offered thedefinitions of interpretation and introduced participants involved in the process ofinterpretation, based upon which the most popular criteria for the evaluation ofinterpreting quality are introduced. The fourth chapter came up with strategiesconcerning the improvement of interpreting quality in light of core concepts of ITand elements in the IT triangular model coupled with a few examples. In the chapter of Conclusion, the paper summarized the researches and discoveries it had made inlight of Interpretive Theory, raised issues existing in the current research and offeredsuggestions for further researches.
