Punctuation mark is a part of written language, and it is also an indispensable auxiliary tool of written language. Foreign students would make all kinds of errors during the period of Chinese learning. Especially when they are learning Chinese writing, they make a great quantity of errors in Chinese punctuation marks when they are writing Chinese essays. The reasons are multiple:Foreign students know little about the classification of Chinese punctuation marks and the standard usage of each kind of Chinese punctuation marks, the teachers neglect this part, and the teaching materials lack an introduction to the knowledge of punctuation, etc. This article collects the daily homework of Thai undergraduate students in the third grade from Guangxi University for Nationalities as materials. The author summarizes the error types when the students using Chinese punctuation, analyzes the reasons why they make these kinds of errors and makes some suggestions about how to improve the teaching of teaching Chinese as a second language.
