The existential construction, reprensenting a typical feature of Chinese as a topic–prominent language, is a special kind of sentence patterns in Chinese. Many Chineselearners’ mother tongue does not have such patterns, which increases the difficulty of theacquisition of Chinese. Based on the existing researchers of the existential construction inthe field of Chinese Language and the present situation of the second language acquisitionresearch, we found the weakness of teaching the existential construction. At the same time,by analyzing characteristics of the errors found in the existential sentences, we make thedifficulty of teaching very clear, and point out that the order of the existential construction,as the unique characteristic and its unique expressive function, are the cores of teachingChinese as a foreign language, mastering and using the existential construction flexibly is abig difficulty. With the foundation, we try to devide the teaching into three stages, first,medium, and advanced. The design of the practice is an important part, which combinesthe mechanical exercise, meaningful communication practice and practice method. Aperfect design has important significance in guiding the practice. Here I try to write a betterteaching design of the existential construction, aiming to use it in actual teaching practiceof Chinese.
