A Translation Project Report Of Royal Dutch/Shell

This is a translation project report on a case study, Royal Dutch/Shell by Peter HMay, Valéria da Vinha and Natan Zaidenweber, from Corporate Incentives andEnvironmental Decision Making. Translation is the source text. In the process ofdevelopment, Shell found the superiority of sustainable development and thengradually incorporated it into its policy-making as well as the achievement andexperience it gained now is the main contents of the source text. The main contents ofthis report are divided into four parts: Part One is the translation project description,including project background and significance. Part Two is the background of thesource text, including the author introduction, main contents of the source text,linguistic features of the source text, and review of the source text. Part Three is abouttranslation difficulties and methods. The difficulties lie in the translation of features oftechnical document, such as the special sentence modes and expressions. The methodsinclude: breaking up the whole into parts, amplification and omission, conversion andreversion. Part Four concludes with the lessons, implication and unsolved problems inthe translation project: smoothing the technical document translation; to achieve goodtranslation needs a solid linguistic foundation. The translator must master thesimilarities and differences between two languages; being close to the source text ateach level and knowing more about the professional knowledge.
