The teaching of Chinese characters is one of the most difficult points in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. For foreign students, the Chinese characters are very hard to recognize, read and write. In view of this situation, this essay is intended to introduce the author’s teaching design of Chinese characters which is based on the didactics of Chinese character parts.The materials of this teaching design are chosen from the Chinese characters in the syllabus of New HSK Level Four Test. They are counted and classified in detail. The teaching objects are the foreign students in elementary course Class Five of Huazhong Normal University. The teaching is planned to be finished in six lessons. This design mainly uses the didactics of Chinese character parts to introduce the structures and parts of Chinese character, single characters and compound characters. Besides, it highlights the semantic parts, phonogram characters and associative characters. In addition, the author also designed some games and exercises in each lesson and a final exam to test the students.This set of teaching program is designed on the basis of teaching principles and methods. Moreover, it presents a reflection after teaching.
