On Translation Of Frequently-used Words And Sentences In Technical English

As a branch of English for Specific Purposes, technical English is different from other English styles. Generally, technical English is used in scientific writings, papers, teaching books, technical reports and academic speeches about science and engineering technology, which asks for objective content, definite semantics, concise expression and compact structure. Thus there are some specific words and sentences, such as more nominalization, more sentences in passive, more long sentences. Since the purpose, the object and the function of translating technical English are significantly different from translating other English styles, so is the standard. This thesis analyzes the frequently-used words and sentences in technical English as well as the standard of technical English translation, and introduces some methods to translate those frequently-used words and sentences in practical translation activities. Examples are given while explaining those methods and other applicable situations, in the hope of providing a reference for translators.
