Professor Liu Yongping’s Modern Music Sight Singing Tutorial is based on various schools of modern music works in1950s. The book is organized into six chapters. Chapter One to Chapter Four is about monophonic sight-singing, which describes twelve semitones, arranging by music with a tonal center, music without a tonal center and serial organization of pitch. Chapter Five gives an over view polyphonic sight-singing that originates from tuning, multi tuning and without tuning styles of music. Chapter Six brings together some multi-voiced homophony singing saws with piano, which are composed by complete vocal works.My purpose in this study is to briefly analyze musical works in Modern Music Sight Singing Tutorial and give an analysis of melody, rhythm, harmony, tonality and other musical elements, trying to explore monophonic and multi-voiced homophonic singing saws. I also add some new practicing ways, in hoping that students will grasp the content quickly. This paper also involves the analyzing and exploring Modern Music Sight Singing Tutorial, trying to figure out the technical characteristics and artistic values of this book to help those who are engaging in the teaching of solfeggio have a better understanding of this book. What’s more, another purpose of this paper is to enhance the value of this book in sight singing education among normal colleges and to promote the use of this book.After asking advice of both the editor and my supervisor, I finalized the basic thought and the structure of this paper:Part One:An overview of the modern music:1. The definition of modern music;2. The current development of modern music;3. The importance of understanding modern music.Part Two:An analysis and summarization of Modern Music Sight Singing Tutorial:1.A comprehensive introduction of this book, analyzing from the situation of the text books, the overall outline and specific examples.2. A technically analysis which is based on the differences between traditional and modern characteristics of music, ranging from the melody, harmony, rhythm and tones.Part Three:Teaching practice:1. Teaching of monophony,which includes the difficulties in melody and beat, trying to give some suggestions and teaching examples;2,Teaching of polyphony including two parts Sight-singing and polyphonic Sight-singing, also includes the corresponding countermeasures and teaching examples analysis.
