This thesis focuses on the two topics:(1) There are just limitedresearch on the status of mental health of Shanghai High schoolstudents, although there are lot’s of reference from domestic andinternational studies on this field (2) On the other hand, Shanghai highschool students, as a special group, have lots of mental problems insuch a big city and in such a quickly changing society. So it is veryimportant to understand their mental status and to understand howthey handle mental problems.Questionnaire method is used to do the survey. The questionnaireconsists of four parts:(1) the basic personal situation, including gender,grade level, category of school, educational background of father andmother, family economic status and family relationship;(2) MentalHealth Questionnaire. Mental Health Survey, the questionnaire whichwas developed by Wang Jishen from the Institute of Psychology,Chinese Academy of Sciences researcher;(3) Questionnaire on thereaction to mental pressure. The questionnaire on the reaction tomental pressure of middle school students, which was developed byChen Shulin from College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences,Zhejiang University.(4) The questionnaire developed by myself.586highschool students from Grade1,2and3of several high schools aresurveyed. The high schools covers normal high school, key schools ofPudong and key schools of Shanghai. Excel is used to summarize rawdata. SPSS is used to analyze data.The research focuses on the two topics:(1) The status of the metalhealth of Shanghai students; their reaction to mental pressure; thesocial supporting.(2) The relationship between students mental healthand their reaction to pressure and social supporting.Below are the conclusions:(1) generally the metal problems of Shanghai high school stuteuds is not severe. Female studentsperformace better than male. Grade3students out-perform grade1and2. The students from poor family have more mental problems, aswell as these whose parents are not well educated, whose family is notso harmony, who is used to fighting with others.(2) Students usuallyreact to pressure with positive ways. Female perform bettern than male.Grade3students performs better than grade2and grade3. These fromharmony family perform better than others, as well as these whoseparents are well educated.(3) Female get more supporting from familyand friends. Grade3students get more supporting. Those from poorfamily or non-harmony family get less supporting.(4) Those who reactpositively to pressure have better mental health than negatively.(5)Those who get more social supporting have better metal health,especially the supporting from family, teachers and friends. The moresupporting, the better mental health.(6) Those who get more socialsupporting can react to pressure with more active ways, especially thesupporting from family, friends and teachers. Those who mainly getsupporting from network usually react to pressure with a negative way.According to the research results, seven suggestions are given:(1)Deepen education reform, relieve students’ pressure on learning;(2)Give different mental health training and lectures to students fromdifferent grade.(3) Guide students to learn the positive reaction topressure. Provide students with adequate venting platform andapproaches;(4) the family, school and social should provide studentswith a strong social supporting system;(5) Pay attent to the influence ofweb on students’ mental health, especially to those from normalschools and from non-harmony family.(6) Pay attention to mentalhealth of male, reflect on the traditional education model;(7) Sincefamily supporting is very important to mental health, the good familyatmosphere should be built.
