Objective: In order to distinguish the differences and similarities betweenActive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ACBT) and Cognitive BehavioralTherapy (CBT), this study compared ACBT with CBT in the theoretical basis,the operating procedures and the issues of scientificity. In addition, it made anattemptable explores about the advantages and weaknesses in its practicalapplication, through the case analysis of ACBT. Psychotherapy, a specialoccupation which adjusts the psychological problems of specific populationthrough establishes a harmonious relationship between counselor and client aswell as uses the guidance of related psychology theory. In a sense, thedevelopment of psychotherapy accompanied by the major changes of humansociety in the past century. Now, as hard to adapt to these changes, more andmore individuals in human society generate many psychological problemswhich different from the ones in the past. As a result, the demands of solvingthese mental problems gradually become the fundamental driving force ofdevelopment of psychotherapy. Although the start of psychotherapy is a bit latein our country, it develops rapidly. We are learning the excellent foreignpsychotherapy while more and more local psychotherapy appearing at the sametime. It would be useful for the improving of domestic psychotherapy bythinking and summing up the local psychotherapy. With its simple and practical characteristics, CBT has be widely applied, and reached the "system ofpsychotherapy" status. ACBT is an achievement of Chinese scholars in thelocalization process of psychotherapy.Methods: Comparison research and case analysis.Results: To the theoretical basis, it follows the basic hypothesis of CBT,which believes the environmental factors, cognitive factors and behavioralfactors are closely related in the occurrence of the psychological disease.Cognitive factors, which include the individual’s thinking and beliefs have adecision effect on the mood and behavior while changing correspondingcognitive factors become the key of the treatment. On this basis, ACBTcombines the theory of Positive Psychology, which complementary to thetraditional clinical psychology. ACBT emphasizes the great role of thepotentially positive force and positive action in psychotherapy. To the operatingprocedures, ACBT contains four stages and six cores, which adapt to thediagnosis and investigation procedures for mental illnesses in the Chinesemedical institutions, but also in line with the general rules of the psychotherapyprocess. Although some record forms and techniques are similar to the way ofCBT, ACBT pay more attention to the discovery and utilization of the positivefactors from the beginning to the end of psychotherapy, rather than the way ofeducational tendency in CBT. To the issues of scientificity, For more than half acentury, CBT keeps developing and improving in practices,its theoreticalassumptions, maneuverability, validation and reproducibility standard are respectively accord with scientific standards. Through a number of relatedresearches, it has been widely recognized for a effective psychological therapy.ACBT is the scientific CBT developing in an active direction. The kernel oftheory hypothesis also includes the attribute content of natural science and thehumanities of psychology, which reflects the ACBT comprehensively analyzingthe visitor’s psychological phenomenon and take feasible measures, through arelatively comprehensive scientific point of view; the operating procedure is aconcrete performance of scientific practice,for the individual or individuals, ithas the advantages of repeated execution characteristics, and also achieved asignificant effect in the applied scope.Conclusions:1. Through the comprehensive comparison between ACBT and CBT intheoretical basis, operating procedures,scientific issues and the other aspects, itshowed there are differences and connections between ACBT and CBT. WhatACBT distinguish from other psychotherapeutic methods is its consistently"active", paying attention to visitor’s change and development, alwaysemphasizing the positive role, committing to help visitors solving their ownproblems by themselves actively. At the same time, from problem analysisperspective, adjust visitors’ psychology through positive cognitive restructuringand behavior modification, to find their own unique coping styles and statechanging. In the past ten years, with the continuously improving and mature inscientific research and clinical practice in the treatment, it has stronger maneuverability, and has more significant effect in the scope of its use, and it isa scientific psychological therapy with a complete and logical theory, strongoperation. But undeniable, ACBT since birth but more than10years, still hasmany deficiencies, its science and scientific problems still need to withstandlonger and more practical and detailed studies of the inspection.2. Based on the analysis, treatment and summary of two cases, it provedthat the ACBT has strong operability in the practical application. Theaggressive behavior of self exploration and positive factors of self mining isunique advantages of the treatment. But at the same time, due to the subjectivenature of self exploration, it has certain requirements for the therapists’guidance levels and visitors’ ability to understand, so the self explorationprocess requires more concrete guidance standard.
