In today’s highly developing globalization, hard news, political, economic and scientific news with serious topics and full of ideology, guidance and knowledge, are important for the sharing of information and the spreading of culture. The C-E translation of hard news is an essential way for the world to know the latest news of China. Thus the translators should be cautious and do their utmost to deliver information correctly and swiftly. The paper aims at discussing the C-E translation of hard news from the prospective of culture. At first, the paper elaborates the features of Chinese and English hard news from the four aspects, structure, diction, sentence patterns and rhetoric. Knowing the features of hard news can guide our translation. From the perspective of culture, it analyses the essence of the C-E translation of hard news, intercultural communication. Thus, we should specially pay attention to the cultural obstruction in translation. As to the cultural obstruction, based on Eugene A. Nida’s translation theory of functional equivalence, the paper presents three methods for the C-E translation of hard news:literal translation, editing and translation, and explaining and translation. It depends on the real context to choose translation methods. No matter what to be chosen, the ultimate aim is to deliver information and spread culture correctly and swiftly.
