Generally speaking, all languages have something in common andat the same time every language has its distinctive peculiarities.Comparative analysis of two languages, Chinese and Vietnamese, makes possible to define similarities and peculiarities of these languages.Common characteristics of these languages include the fact that bothChinese and Vietnamese have classifiers. As Vietnamese students arefamiliar with classifier systems of their mother tongue that helps themwhen learning Chinese. But that doesnt mean that Vietnamese studentscan avoid making mistakes in using Chinese classifiers. Due to the factthat there is still a significant difference between two grammaticalsystems of these languages there is an obvious necessity ofcomparative analysis of Chinese and Vietnamese. The results of thisresearch will be helpful for Chinese teaching to Vietnameseinternational students. The main field of this research is devoted to analysis of commonmistakes of Vietnamese students using Chinese classifiers.Comprehensive analysis of differences between Chinese andVietnamese classifier systems corresponds the needs of teachingChinese as a foreign language. Based on Vietnamese students erroranalysis research defined main causes of those errors: cross–linguisticinfluence, gaps in teaching materials and quality of teaching, complicacy of target language, difficulties related to students studystrategies etc.According to the research findings, author gives somerecommendations for improving educational process. I hope myresearch will help to improve Vietnamese students studying Chineseresults and stimulate further development of teaching Chinese as aforeign language.
