With more and more foreign people getting started to learn Chinese, more attention has been drawn to the method of teaching listening to foreigners. So how to help improve Chinese learners especially those at the early learning stage their listening ability becomes a crucial task for the Chinese teachers. After over twenty years’ research, the approach to teaching listening has grown up into a systematical theory of micro-skill training. relying on his40-year teaching experience, Mr. Yang Huiyuan drew the conclusion that the main goal of teaching listening should focus on the training of eight micro-skills, such as the skill of identity and analysis, repeating and imitation, memorizing, responding, taking notes, guessing and imaging, searching and leaping, and summarizing. As a consequence, the activity of teaching listening found its way to emphasizing skill training instead of focusing on the listening scores. However, although micro-skill training has been paid some attention, the effective method of skill training combined with a certain listening textbook is neglected by Chinese teachers during their listening teaching activities.It is based on such theory and listening teaching situation that the author is determined to find a way of skill training combined with a certain listening textbook. By analyzing the exercises of a certain listening book, the author tries to find out their effects of training learners listening skills, and expects to find a way for Chinese teachers to help Chinese learners to form a good listening habit and improve their listening skills during their different learning stages. The basis of the article is Mr. Yang Huiyan’s eight micro-skills mentioned above, and the certain listening textbook is《发展汉语·初级汉语听力》The whole procedure is divided into three stages, and each stage is arranged certain target skills. The two skills at the first stage can be trained by combining with Chinese Phonetics, while another three skills at the second stage can be trained with vocabulary and sentences, and the last three skills at the third stage can be trained with articles.This article is devoted to applying theory into the listening procedure as well as the designing of listening textbooks. It is sincerely hoped that the training strategies designed by the author can provide some useful references for Chinese teachers.
