With the international community interacting with each other more closely, theinterpreters’ role in bridging communication gets increasingly bigger and more apparent.The interpreting and translation correspondingly step into a new era and the relatedstrategies are becoming a major academic research topic. However, most academicresearch both home and abroad is mainly discussing interpreting strategies withSeleskovitch’s Theory of Sense and Nida’s theory of Dynamic Equivalence. And someChinese researchers even bring the thoughts of Yan Fu to discuss the strategies ofinterpreting. In the author’s mind, most of the research, which is mainly focusing onstrategies in simultaneous interpreting, only offers some similar perspectives into the issueand sheds little light on consecutive interpreting.In this paper, the author discusses interpreting strategies from the perspective ofDaniel Gile’s Principle of Fidelity on categorizing information of informational texts, andanalyzes particular examples in Chinese-English consecutive interpreting at Premier WenJiabao’s Chinese and Foreign Press, hoping to explore new interpreting strategies andexpand the utility of the Principle in research. In general, the author hopes to provide a newinsight for interpreting strategy research.This paper is divided into5chapters. In the first chapter, the author mainlyintroduces the reasons behind doing this research before presenting the status quo of therelated research both home and abroad. In the second chapter, the author adopts the EffortModel of Daniel Gile to analyze the obstacles and most commonly employed strategies inConsecutive Interpreting. And in the third chapter, the author gives a brief introduction tothe Principle of Fidelity and Daniel Gile’s thoughts on loyal interpreting and interpretingstrategies. Then by analyzing particular examples of the Chinese-English consecutiveinterpreting at the2011Premier Wen Jiabao’s Chinese and Foreign Press, the author putsforward some new interpreting strategies in the fourth chapter and summarizes thelimitations of this paper in the last chapter.In short, by discussing the Principle of Fidelity on interpreting strategies, the authorhopes to bring forward new perspective or enlightenment to researchers and pursuers regarding interpreting strategies.
