A Possible E-C Translation Strategy Of Contracts

Contract Translation has been frequently discussed in academic literature focusingon linguistic features such as glossary and syntax, this thesis attempts to explore aneffective strategy to decipher key pieces of information in an English contract andreorganize these pieces in the Chinese translation.This thesis observes that the main content of a contract is rights and obligationsagreed between the parties and each right/obligation statement is centered around threekinds of information, namely the actor, the behavior under a right/an obligation and thepremise(s) under which the actor can or cannot carry its rights or obligations.By analyzing examples from the translation of Amended and Restated TechnologyCooperation Agreement, this thesis is aimed to provide an applicable strategy for a clearand logic translation that contains full information of the source contract, in the hope thatcontract translators can render contract translation of a higher quality by adopting thestrategy.
