This paper mainly focus on the “tou” and “tong” in modern Chinese. We willdiscuss them both on sentence structure and its meaning. We will look from themoment and the history. And then compare them.Chapter one: It describes the study’s purpose and meaning, how we would doit and the problems we would discuss.Chapter two: we divide the meaning of “tou” into four kinds, the “Xtou1”means to get through, the “Xtou2”meaning some liquid get full,“Xtou3”means theaction is done, and “Xtou4”meaning the understanding is thorough. And “tou” canalso used as the complement of degree, and the verb are usually negative. We thendiscuss its history.Chapter three: we divide the meaning of “tong” into three kinds, the“Xtong1”means to the action of connecting the two is done, the“Xtong2”mean toget through,“Xtong3” means the understanding is without troubles. We then discussits history.Chapter four: we compare the two in many angles, how they work withothers, how they are similar to and different from each other. At last, we try to findout the reason why they are different.
