In recent years,as the comprehensive power of China isstrengthened day by day,the international status of our country is alsoimproved,which caused a fever of Learning Chinese.During the course of teaching Chinese as a foreign language,thelearners are be divided into three levels----elementary,intermediate andsenior according to the learners’Chinese base.Although compared to oneon elementary level, learners on middle level have more vocabulariesand master basic structure of grammar better,they make a lot ofmistakes when they communicate with others,especially making longmonologues.During Ma mingyan’s <study on Chinese discourse facing teachingChinese as a foreign language>,by observing a lot of languagematerials of intermediate learners,she found that there are lots of errs incohesion both in spoken and written Chinese.For example,“Last June,I came to PuDong’s airport by plane from Korea, but now,no onepicked me up.” In this dialogue,the word “now” was wrongly used.Itshould be placed by “at that moment”which indicates a passed time.“When I look at pictures at that moment,I smiled,what a nice day! Itgives me unforgettable memories.” In this dialogue,the word “gives”should be;placed by “gave”which indicates a passed time.Throughobserving intermediate Chinese learners’wrong ways of using discoursecohesion.Ma concluded an important theory that ability in discourse isnot acquired naturally by mastering certain amount of vocabularies andbasic grammar knowledge. It needs to be cultivated by large amount ofspecific trainings.While browsing teaching material on spoken Chinese in chinacurrently,trainings about discourse are only compiled in intermediateand senior teaching materials in a way of being “blended” with someother kind of trainings.Obviously they are not designed systematically,which will only impede improving both students’learning speed andcommunicating ability.So it is necessary to give justified advicesabout compilation of current teaching materials. This essay chose teaching materials on intermediate spoken Chinese as object of study. Indiscourse perspective,made censuses and analysis on distribution ofcohesion factors in every text,and also analyze compilation design ofexercises.During the course of analysis on teaching material,this essayput forward a new viewpoint that with marks in the cohesion and specificexplanations about that,using texts as examples to teach knowledgeabout cohesion will get easier.And in this way,students will have avisual impression and a rational comprehension on describing ways ofcohesion.With large amount of unitized relevantexercises,students’discourse ability will be cultivated better.
