Based on the author’s translation of Shandong University of Finance and EconomicsLibrary Guide, this report gives a brief introduction to the task and process description,language analysis of the source text and strategies used in the translation. The source text isan illustrative introduction of the library service departments, electronic resources, bookclassification and rules and regulations, etc, with unique language characteristics. So at firstthe author analyzes the language features of the source text from two aspects includingtechnical terms and sentences. Then guided by Skopos Theory, based on the Skopos rule,coherence rule, fidelity rule and loyalty principle, through case analysis the major discussionis devoted to the skills used by the author in the translation practice referring to two aspects,terms and sentences, which are great challenges for the author. In the conclusion, it isexpected that this report can help solve similar problems and improve the translation ofsimilar source texts.This report mainly includes the following four parts. The first part is the task andtranslation description including the background of the task, the introduction of the sourcetext, pre-translation preparation and modification process. The second part introduces thetheoretical framework of the translation, Skopos theory, which mainly tells its developmentand the factors that influence the translation. And the third part talks about the methods usedin the translation practice, analyzing from terminological and syntactical levels withillustrations of examples. The last part is the conclusion in which the translator summarizesthe strategies used in the translation and the defects occurring in the process.
