In teaching Chinese as a foreign language, the compilation of textbooks is of great importance out of question. However,in the textbooks for teaching chinese as a foreign language, Chinese characters teaching is still relatively weak, especially for the primary children, in which the compilation of Chinese characters teaching part has seriously hampered the development of the entire teaching process. For the time being, Chinese characters teaching for children in those textbooks maintain a vassal status to a certain extent, which is in lack of scientificity, systematicness and efficiency. This article will select a set of "Happy Chinese Characters"(a, b), which are widespread-used children’s textbooks, as the study object, in order to make an analysis on the individual cases of Chinese characters teaching for children. This analysis will be conducted from three aspects-the impartation of knowledge, the new vocabulary distribution, and the characters practice. The reasonableness and shortages existing in textbooks’ compilation will be later discussed, on the basis of which an analysis on how to compile the characters-teaching textbooks for foreign children and primary foreign students will be made. This article will be set and divided into five chapters.The first chapter is an introduction. This chapter includes the scope and value of the research, the current status of the study, the significance and methods of the research.The second chapter studies on Chinese characters’teaching content arrangement of the "Happy Chinese Characters". First, We will explain the reason for which we select and analyse the textbook, the "Happy Chinese Characters ", and then describe the teaching of Chinese characters, including the impartation of Chinese characters knowledge and the setting and design of Chinese characters exercisec. And, in the process of analysis, we’ll pointout the deficiencies in it.The third chapter studies on the new characters of the "Happy Chinese". We will make statistics on the new characters.First,we will compare the character list of the"Happy Chinese Characters"with that of the"Chinese Vacabulary and Charcter Grade outline"(revised)and analyze the distribution of A,B,C and D characters. Second, we will compare395characters of the"Happy Chinese Characters" with1000characters(commonly used)in the "Basic Chinese Characters table" and count he strokes of some difficult characters. Finally, we will find out characters’ selection problems.The forth chapter studies on Chinese characters exercise of the"Happy Chinese Characters".This chapter will focus on the qualitive and quantitative analysis of the characters exercises. We will make a survey on the evaluation of the Chinese characters exercises in the foreign students.First of all.we will study the amount of the characters" exercises in the course. Based on the statistics, we will compare the amount of characters’ exercises in the course with that of independent characters’ teaching materials and the find out some problems. Second, we will compare the types of the exercises with those in the independent characters’ teaching materials and find out reasonable and adequate places. Finally, we will make an evaluation on the exercise. It includes grade evaluation of assessment of learners. As the evaluation of learners, we will design questionnaires.The fifth chapter proposes relevant thinking for the Chinese characters’ teaching materials compilation in the primary. Based on the research above, this chapter will proposes the general principles of the primary teaching materals of teaching Chinese as a second language,and finally point out the deficiencies of this book and put forward its writer’s wishes.
