The problem of translatability and untranslatability has always been a controversy in translation study. During translating, it is quite safe to say that some certain elements can not been translated, but that does not mean that translation is impossible. Therefore, translators should exert themselves to find those untranslatable elements and put forward different strategies to solve them. The research paper Same-sex Marriage and Education:Implications for Schools, Students, and Parents is written by E. Vance Randall, a professor of education in Brigham Young University. This paper mainly talks about the relationship between same-sex marriage and American society, culture, religion and especially education, using formal language and many long sentences.Generally based on the understanding and the translation of the above mentioned paper, this thesis is carried out in the aspect of exploring different translation strategies for those difficulties existing in E-C translation of research paper and the author presents her ideas mainly in the perspectives of how to solve difficulties in words and sentences in English papers and how to define the overall style of the translation under the principle of text-types theory raised by Peter Newmark.
