In recent years, Chinese has become more and more important as a foreign language due to the rapid development of China’s economy. As a respond, teaching Chinese to foreigners as a second language has attracted a lot of attention from scholars of second language acquisition in the world. This thesis tries to use task-based approach in primary level spoken Chinese class for foreigners and hopes to help the Chinese teachers to use this approach better in the future.The thesis is divided into five parts. The first part explains the reasons to do the research. The second part summarizes the important theories in the field of task-based approach study. The third part introduces the current situation of task-based approach study in the world and in China. The fourth part is the part we put the mode of task-based approach into practice. The writer tried to combine task-based approach with the current teaching materials and the traditional3P teaching approach and illustrated the teaching process with an example. After that, a survey was done to collect the opinions of the students about the mode and to assess the result of the teaching. In the last part, conclusions are drawn about the mode and some suggestions are given to the teachers who use task-based approach in primary level spoken Chinese classes.In fact, there is no perfect teaching approach in the world. Task-based approach can make the students more interested and involved in class and help them to use Chinese in their daily life better. But we still need other approaches to balance the meaning and the form of the language, so that we can make the Chinese spoken class more effective.
