Translation Practice Report Basis On IMO Normal Course

China, as a rapid developing emerging economy, takes an important position in world economy. Meanwhile, it is a major shipping country and has more contact with other countries through shipping industry. However, maritime literature, especially teaching material plays quite important role on training high quality vessel staffs. These materials in English are common reading staffs for navigation-related majors in that navigation is more mature in western countries and most of maritime regulations are written in English. As a result, the translation quality decides readers’understanding and use of the original material. Thus, it requires that translators should not only have high translation skills, but also handle some points of maritime English and its translation for avoiding translationese and keeping readers from misunderstanding.Combined with proof reading the International Maritime Normal Course, this thesis focuses on three parts, namely the definition and harm of translationese, the expression and correction of translationese in chosen material and how to avoid translationese. Showing a series of examples and demonstrations, the author aims to help readers fully understand the expression and harm of the translationese, which can give some inspirations for translating literatures with same category.
