The period of Tang and Song is an important stage when the predict-object structure achieved a further development. In the book of Gui Xin Za Zhi, this type of disyllabic words completed a more significant development. Their quantity is considerable, in which the number of verbs is absolutely dominant, followed by nouns. The number of adjectives and adverbs grows fast on the basis of those in previous time.Verbs, nouns, and adjectives all take "verb+verb" and "verb+noun" as their main form of constituting themselves. Many other types which were seldomly seen or even never were generated as well. Most of Chinese words were evolved from phrases. The evolution from phrases to words is a gradual solidification process, thus during this period, the existence of some intermediate state is inevitable. Separable word is just one kind of them.By taking an eyesight of development, the separable word should be included in the scope of words. Most of the disyllabic predict-object words(including separable words) in Gui Xin Za Zhi are originated from the previous which reflects some extent of inheritance. In addition, a small part is generated in the two Song Dynasties, which reflects some degree of ingenuity. The emergence of these disyllabic predict-object words not only enrich vocabulary content which appeared near Modern times, but also lay a solid foundation for the situation of Modern Chinese vocabulary.During the Tang and Song Dynasties, predicate-object structure was highly productive. In Gui Xin Za Zhi,there are numerous cognate words of this predicate-object structure. Compared to the previous period, the types of predicate and object are more abundant.Their combination is more flexible and their meaning is more general. The idioms involving predicate-object relationship take account for a large proportion of its total. Seemingly some idioms share the same structure, however, their deep syntactic relations largely differs. The lexicalization of predict-object phrase is not accidental which is influenced by a variety of conditions. Based on the study of Gui Xin Za Zhi, we can draw the following conclusions. To achieve the conversion from predict-object phrase to a word, predict-object phrase must posses certain phonological form and weaken or lose part of even the whole meaning of itself, which will definitely make its meaning vague. Only by this process can the predict-object phrase be turned into a word. Meanwhile, mechanism factors, such as foreign languages also play an important part in the process of the lexicalization of predict-object phrase.
