The paper focuses on discussing the semantic and syntactic characteristics of "down" verb-tendency complement with object.The main structure of the dissertation is divided into three chapters.There are another two parts of exordium and concluding remarks.On the basis of excessive reading and comprehensive analysis of previous research achievements,we find that the studies of verb-tendency complement have focused on several or several classes comparison researches.But there are few studies of verb-tendency complement itself internal comparison researches.The transversal studies are more than longitudinal studies.This paper attempts to achieve a breakthrough in this regard.In the semantic study,firstly according to the existing use cases in the corpus,the "down" verb-tendency complement without object is divided into two categories,the mobile verb and the non-mobile verb.And then we analyz the semantic features of each type of verbs.We divide these verbs into ten subclasses.We also set out all verbs in the "down" verb-tendency complement with object from the corpus.According to the preceding verb subclasses,we find that "down" verb-tendency complement is influential for with or without the object.The verb-tendency complement with object have three classes less than the verb-tendency complement without object.Other verbs also have different using frequency.The classes of "sit" and "walk" are commonly used.And there are some new verbs concentrated in these classes.According to this situation,we also do some open analysis for these two classes of verbs.In the syntactic form study,according to the usage of our corpus, we do some static descriptions for this verb-tendency complement with object.And in the description we find the usages of this verb-tendency complement with object are not balanced.The post-object pattern is the most,and the forms of object are various.We conduct a quantitative study on this post-object pattern,and give some data on the use of the object.In addition,we also have a comparative study of what syntactic elements they can act between the verb-tendency complement with and without object. In the syntactic function study,we find, the "down" verb-tendency complement without object can be used as predicate, attributive, subject and complement. The "down" verb-tendency complement with object can be used as subject, predicate,object, attribute and complement. The syntactic similarities have differences.We finally do some descriptions for the nouns that appeared in the "down" verb-tendency complement.Not all nouns are object or complement.We should treat them separately.
