Central Asia is located in the core of Eurasia, deep in the inland, and far away from theocean, which is of great geopolitical significance. After the Cold War, central Asia caught theattention of the whole world because of its unique strategic location and rich resources. TheUntied States bracketed central Asia into foreign policy vision by the opportunity of thecollapse of the Soviet Union, and relied on its own advantages penetrate into this “PowerVacuum” area. The United States’ original interests in central Asia were energy, and later, asthe region’s geopolitical value increased, America speeded up its pace to intervene in centralAsia, especially after the happening of “9·11”. However, after Barack Obama came intopower, the America’s central Asia policy has made major adjustments in the wake of itschange on global strategy. This paper studies the basic course of America’s central Asia policyin the post-Cold War period and on that basis compares and analyzes the adjustment processof Obama administration’s (2009-2012) central Asia policy. The paper summarizes theachievements and new features of America’s adjusted central Asia policy, and researches thedeep reasons that affect the changes with the consideration of the American domesticbackground and regional background. Finally, the paper conducts a comprehensive discussionon the influence and development tendency of America’s adjusted central Asia policy.
