With global warming and the more and more frequent happenings of extreme climateaccidents, climate change has became one of the hottest issues on the internationalpolitical agenda, which has profoundly affected international relations.China, as a fast-developing country with fragile eco-system,is very vulnerable toclimate change, and has therefore attached great importance to the addressing ofclimate change. Much effort has also been made in climate diplomacy. On the onehand, China takes an active part in the global climate negotiations. On the other hand,numerous cooperation projects in coping with climate change have been implementedbetween China and many other countries like the United States, European Union,Japan, ASEAN countries, and so on.China’s climate diplomacy serves as part of global endeavor in addressing climatechange. However, it is also carried out in the context of China’s diplomaticadjustments and innovation, which takes place concurrently with China’s reform andopen-up course. It is actually an epitome of China’s diplomatic adjustments andinnovation. Just like the latter, China’s climate diplomacy has yielded positiveoutcomes, and is meanwhile faced up with substantial difficulties and challenges. As aresponsible growing power, China is also committed to make contribution to theworld’s endeavor in addressing climate change.This thesis consists of four parts. The first part includes definition and features ofclimate change diplomacy, and an introduction to the efforts that the whole world hasbeen making to tackle climate change. In part two, a whole picture of China’s climatediplomacy will be given, including its history, multilateral negotiation and bilateralcooperation China has been taking part in. The third part will focus on Copenhagenconference, to see the new diplomatic practices China made during that period.“Climate Diplomacy and China’s Diplomatic Adjustments and Innovation” is thetopic of the fourth part. In this part, changes in China’s diplomacy as a whole will beelaborated. Finally, as a conclusion, the thesis will go to the challenges facing China’sclimate diplomacy, and try to work out some sort of solutions.
