Canada is one of the major immigration countries in the world. For centuries, immigrantsfrom various nations together with their diverse cultures came to Canada and settled here,forming a social landscape of mixed culture. Through years of exploring and practice, Canadadeveloped Multicultural Policy, which has successfully created a cultural blooming society aswell as provided for other multi-ethnic countries a fine model in coping with nationalrelationships. Chinese, as an important part of Canada’s immigration, was found migrating toCanada as far back as the late19thcentury. Along with the improvement of Canadianmulticultural society, Chinese-Canadians also went through the process of being discriminatedto struggle for equality and then to integration. At present, Chinese-Canadians have becomean indispensible group of the society by making great contribution to the development of thecountry. Chinese language even became the country’s third-most widely spoken language,following the two official languages--English and French. As a country with56ethnic groups,China’s national conditions share similarities with Canada. This paper, which focuses on thevicissitude of Chinese-Canadians in Canada’s multicultural society with CanadianMulticultural Policy as the main line, is aimed to help Chinese abroad to better integrate intomainstream society and enlighten China in improving national policy as well as enhancingsocial stability.The paper is divided into five chapters. Chapter one is the introductory part, whichpresents the main content, objective and limitations of the study. Chapter two reviews theformation of Canadian Multicultural Policy, and specially explains the development ofCanadian immigrant policy, in order to provide backgroung study for chapter three. Chapterthree analyzes the struggles and integration experienced by Chinese-Canaidans throughout theChinese immigrant history. Chapter four draws insprition to China through reviewing theCanadian Multicultural Policy. The last part of the paper proposes an exclusive conclusionbased on the previous discussion and puts forward suggestions for future researches onChinese immigrants.
