The Study On Drug Control Operations In Tajikistan

Central Asia has been gradually becoming a main pass for Afghanistan to transport its drug outside since1990s. Most of the drug reaches Russia and Europe, and little arrives in Xinjiang Province of China as well. Tajikistan is the biggest transit country in the region. Drug problem has increasingly become a major source of many social hazards. People can get drug easier and easier. As a result, the number of both drug addicts and AIDS patients is getting larger. Corruption, terrorism crime and flows of drug money are more serious. This paper concentrates on not only the harm form Afghanistan but also the drug control operations of Tajikistan, as well as the effect of the efforts. In addition, the essay keeps an eye on what hampers the drug control operations, in order to provide relevant reference for China to effectively participate in international cooperation in drug control.The anti-drug struggle of Tajikistan has begun since drug from Afghanistan was exported through it. Many drug control operations are carried out from then on, including those of its own and the international cooperation actions. Tajikistan has done a lot of efforts in institution building, legal system construction and drug control operations. International organizations, such as United Nations Office on Drugs and crime, the Commonwealth of Independent States and Europe Union, provide much support in anti-drug struggle. With various efforts, Tajikistan confiscates a large amount of drug every year. But it’s very small in comparison with the whole number of drug transported through Tajikistan. The situation of drug control is not so optimistic. Xinjiang Province of China borders Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, possible to be eroded by Tajikistan’s drug problem. So it’s necessary to strengthen the cooperation with international community against drug trafficking. Shanghai Cooperation Organization has much to do in this area.
