In the depths of the Chinese history, there is an arena:the imperial examination. After implementation for over a thousand years, the Western world people were still amazed of its Brilliance. Today, there is still an arena in the Chinese society, on which colorful tragedy and comedy are performed. This arena is the civil service recruitment examination.British sociologist Anthony Giddens has pointed out:society is not an static entity. The society members copied the society systems by repeating the institutionalized behavior. The System and social behavior have been always the deepest blood meridian in any society. From the perspective of social system and social behavior, the civil service recruitment examination system represents not just a simple recruitment examination.The civil service recruitment examination system, as a nascent system, has rooted in Chinese society, which is closely related with nearly every Chinese person.This thesis is composed of five chapters and an appendix. The first chapter is an introduction on the connotation of civil service recruitment examination system and the system popular and the relationship between the examination and China’s social development and the study procedures and theoretical models. The second chapter is on the design, implementation and other aspects of the empirical investigation. The third chapter is on the civil service recruitment examination. The fourth chapter is on collective reference behavior. Finally the fifth chapter is on the overall theory of ’system-collective behavior’. The appendix is questionnaire.In this thesis, the core theory is located in the fifth Chapter. One is the "system involution", any real system would be inseparable from the social reality, the civil service recruitment examination provides a wonderful perspective to explain this theory; the other is the theory of bureaucratic power politics.
