In order to promote the construction of new socialist countryside, solve theproblems of graduates employment and train more and more successors to the causeof socialism with Chinese characteristics, the policy of “university student villageofficial” is timely proposed. Undergoing three stages of improvement, the policybrings a great deal of benefit to society since it has been put into practice.Along with the gradual development of this policy, the career prospect of theuniversity student “village official” who have fulfilled his/her office terms isbecoming the current social focus. Five major career opportunities for those studentsare suggested by the state, namely, starting one’s own business,office continuance,becoming a civil servant, pursuit of further study, being compelled to start their ownbusiness. No matter which way they choose, a sound plan of career prospect willsignificantly influence the university graduates and the local government.Based on the university student “village official” policy theory as a foundation,from the point of policy analysis, through the detailed analysis of the typical cases ofthe four university graduates whose office terms have expired, this paper aims to inferthe key elements in good career planning. Although many university student “villageofficer” could have a bright future, a lot of reasons, including policy, government,society and individual, impediment their career development. Though the descriptionof the present situation, the existing problems of this policy will be revealed and thesolutions are expected to be found.At last, the proper measures are put forward which are targeted at the fiveopportunities for the university student “village official”. As for the “village official”who wants to start his/her career, the support system is suggested to be establishedthrough the effective combination of knowledge system of career initiation, financialsupport system and service support system. As for the “village official” who intendsto remain at the post, the personnel department should establish sound training and management system to attract more university student “village official” to retainoffice. Among the five choices, the most favorite one is to become a civil servant, thusthe government at various levels should issue relative policies. As for those who aregoing to find a new job should change their concept of employment and seek for newcareer development. The platform of initiative job hunting for the university graduates“village official” whose office term have expired should be jointly established bygovernment, society and the students themselves. As for the university student“village official” who want to pursue further study, sound learning environmentshould be established by the entire society. Meanwhile, relative policies encouragingthe experienced graduates to pursue further study should be issued by the higherlearning institutes, research as well as technical training organizations.
