Job burnout means to describe a series of negative symptoms as emotional exhaustion, cynicism and diminished professional efficacy, as a result of long-term job-related stress that is not sufficiently attended. Job burnout has been one of the common occupational diseases in recent twenty or thirty years and becomes the hot topic in the field of social psychology, organizational behavior and human resource management.Police might have high risk in suffering from job burnout especially to those frontier inspection police, whose duty is to safeguard our country entry-exit ports and therefor their emotional status of fatigue will last long. And their risks are ever higher than other occupations. Currently, few researches have been conducted on the job burnout of frontier inspection police. Therefore a penetrating study on this topic is necessary and of great significance.Based on such knowledge, the author conducted a research into the Shanghai Pudong frontier inspection police from their job burnout status by using Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and self-revised edition, analysising the possible causes of burnout in the profession of police and giving suggestive solution for alleviation of job burnout. The whole thesis is divided into6chapters.The first chapter introduces the challenge now facing the frontier inspection authority, reviews the study on this topic domestic and abroad and elaborates the content and methods contributing to the completion of this thesis.The second chapter lists the job burnout related theories and gives a detailed comment, which serves as the theoretical base of this thesis, i.e. Organizational Support Theory.The third chapter prepares a detailed questionnaire on job burnout for Pudong frontier inspection police. During this process, the author has done a lot of work to raise the hypothesis, design questionnaire, choose sample, carry out the survey and finally give an evaluation on the reliability and validity of the survey.The fourth chapter of this paper consists the analysis on the survey paper of Pudong frontier inspection police by using SPSS and discussion on the research result.The fifth chapter gives some advices on how to depreciate job burnout. From personal point of view, the police should increase the adaptation of job burnout. The police organization should improve the ability of management to prevent, monitor and intervene the job burnout.The sixth chapter draws the conclusion of this paper and gives the outlook of this research. Conclusions out of this thesis:1、MBI and self revised inventory is of great reliability and validity.2、Burnout appears symptoms among Pudong frontier inspection police on its moderate degree.The symptom of diminished professional efficacy is most serious, emotional exhaustion and cynicism goes the next.3、Personal data of age, education level, duty title, working years post influence on burnout. The respondents’ sex and marital status do not demonstrate obvious difference on burnout situation.4、Police burnout is significantly correlated with the source of job burnout.
