The age structure of population has a close relationship with economic growth,residents’ consumption, adjustment of industrial structure and social security. Thisdirectly affects the speed and scale of economic development. Since our countryimplemented the family planning from1983, we have controlled the speed of thepopulation growth. At the same time, the development of economy and theimprovement of living standards has improved our country ’s average life expectancy.These changes have not only improved the quality of residents’ life, but also broughtsome new challenges. On one hand, our country entered the aging society earlier dueto the fall of the birth rate and the increase of the elderly people; on the other hand,the residents’ consumption is influenced by the population aging which is becomingmore and more seriously. And this affects the development of economy. According tothe statistic data of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Province entered the agingsociety in2005. And the population aging problem is becoming a block to economicdevelopment. This article uses the relevant data from1990to2010to analyze theinfluence of the population aging on economic growth and residents’ consumption,using the expanded Solow growth model, the Absolute Income Consumption FunctionTheory of Keynes and VAR model. The results show that the population aging hasnegative impacts on the potential of the economic growth and residents’ consumption.This paper tries to find out the relationship among the population aging, the economicgrowth and the residents’ consumption, analyzes the effects of the population aging ofGuangdong on the economic development and puts forward some suggestions andcountermeasures.
