The Research On The Impact Of Population Aging On Residents’ Consumption In Guangdong Province

Population aging is a serious problem facing the world today, China’s aging population is equally bleak, showing an explosive growth.People over the age of 60 hit the 200 million mark for the first time in 2013, reaching 202 million, accounting for 14.8% of the total population. China became the only country in the world with an aging population of more than 200 million. In 2015, aging population reached222 million and the aging level reached 16.1%,just two years time, the aging level increased by 1.3 percentage points. In addition, China also faces such situation as the increasing empty nesters and oldest old, the worrying health of the elderly. It will have an important impact on our country’s economic and social development. So the aging problem can not be ignored.Since the implementation of reform and opening-up policy,Guangdong economy has gained rapid development,attracting a large number of non-native labors, which has a huge impact on the population structure of Guangdong. As a result, it also makes Guangdong’s aging population present different characteristics:the aging process is volatile, the aging level is low, the aging degree and economic development level is not adapt. Although the current aging level of Guangdong is low, the aging speed has been accelerating. Due to the fact that elderly population and youth population, working-age population have different consumption capacity,consumption tendency, and consumption demand, the gradual increase of the aging level will have an important impact on consumption level and consumption structure in Guangdong Province.The article mainly through the study of the literature of Chinese and foreign scholars on the relationship between population aging and consumption of residents,analyzes the status quo and characteristics of population aging and discusses theoretically the influence mechanism of population aging on the consumption level and consumption structure.Then analyzes the present situation of the residents’ consumption level and consumption structure and the characteristics and influencingfactors of elderly consumption. In the part of empirical analysis, on the one hand,based on the data of population and consumption level from 1990 to 2014, using the standard consumer model to analyze the effect and get the result that aging population has inhibitory effect on residents’ consumption. On the other hand, based on the data of population and consumption structure from 2005 to 2014, using the grey relational analysis model to get the conclusion that the aging population has greater influence on the consumer spending on clothing, food and tobacco,transportation and communication and the correlation degree is higher. Finally, these suggestions are put forward: broaden the source of income in order to increase the purchasing power of the elderly, increase government support to enhance pension services supply capacity, strengthen the construction of pension, medical security system in order to improve the level of protection, develop elderly market and intelligent pension. To alleviate the negative effect of aging, and cultivate new growth points of consumption.
