In the21st century, our country will face the grim problem of ageing population. Rapid aging population will have significant impact on the economic development of our country, and due to the change of age structure leading by aging population, economic growth and social development will be influenced by labor supply, labor productivity, consumption, savings, investment of human capital and social old-age security, and also, in many other ways. However, how and to what extent the impact might affect our country economic society is an important program. This paper will discuss the relationship between population aging and economic from two aspects:the empirical theory and experience, and try to determine in what way and by what measure it will affect our country economic growth, and we provide feasible policy suggestions on how to deal with an ageing population for our country according to the research. We will through an aging population variable into the neoclassical growth model, discussing the problem in the specification of the research on economic growth. We find out that an ageing population have a positive and negative double effect on the steady-state level of growth through rigorous theoretical derivation, the overall effect depends on the positive and negative effect of the net effect; at the same time, we discovered the aging changes in output and labor changes influence on the effect of each critical point, at this point, the pension income standards lead to the effect of different direction is also different.Due to the theory of idealized assumptions may not fully describe all the details of the real economy, so this paper make the empirical test of aging population and economic growth on the basis of theoretical research. Firstly, we estimate total of Douglas production function in China and use of the function of the aging of the parameters to calculate the output elasticity, results show that aging of the output elasticity of China’s economic growth has a negative effect, and its absolute value began to gradually increase from2000, and also according to the calculation, the aging of the contribution rate of output is negative. In the second part of the demonstration, through the use of1993-2011data of aging population and economic growth from national level in the country, the empirical results show that the nationwide population aging is one of the important factors that affects the total output, while in the east point of the Midwest regression finding that apparent differences between regions. Finally, on the basis of the theoretical research and empirical research of this paper, we put forward related suggestions according to our country’s social, cultural and other conditions related to aging of the population policy.
